Rehabilitation Through Art: Inmate Education Exhibition Opens in Kars

Kars has launched a specialized educational exhibition showcasing the vocational training and artistic achievements of inmates from the Kars T-Type and Open Penal Institutions. Curated under the coordination of the Kars Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the event aims to highlight the social reintegration and skill-development programs active within the correctional system.

The opening ceremony, held in the historic Bedestan district, drew high-profile attendees including Kars Governor Ziya Polat, Chief Prosecutor Mehmet Çepni, and Bar Association President Necat Yağcı. Visitors explored a diverse collection of handicrafts, intricate woodwork, decorative designs, and paintings, all produced within prison workshops.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Prosecutor Mehmet Çepni emphasized the evolution of modern penal philosophy, noting that the 21st-century approach prioritizes rehabilitation and education over mere punishment. Officials noted that these ministry-led vocational courses not only provide inmates with sustainable professions but also significantly lower recidivism rates by offering a smooth transition back into public life.
