A historical weaving tradition is making a vibrant comeback in northeastern Turkey, thanks to a newly established women's cooperative in the Arpaçay district of Kars. Aiming to preserve the fading art of traditional carpet weaving, the initiative is successfully transforming cultural heritage into sustainable employment for local women.
Based in Aslanoğlu village, the "Hand of Women, Tongue of History Cooperative" was launched with the strategic endorsement of the Arpaçay District Governor's Office. By stepping up to the looms, local women are not only reviving centuries-old regional motifs but also securing their own financial independence.
The official launch of the workshop was announced via the District Governor’s social media channels, highlighting the project’s dual impact: safeguarding regional craftsmanship while driving rural development through women's empowerment. This initiative stands as a prime model of how cultural preservation can fuel socio-economic growth in remote communities
