Mahmut Alınak, a prominent Kurdish politician and former member of the Turkish Parliament, has been arrested at his home in Kars and sent to prison. The detention follows the Supreme Court of Appeals' decision to uphold a 14-month prison sentence handed down to him for allegedly "insulting the president" in one of his literary works
Alınak, who served in parliament during the 18th and 19th legislative terms, faced legal action regarding his book titled "Mehmet Tunç ve Bêkes" (Mehmet Tunç and Bêkes). The publication focuses on the tragic events of December 2015 during a military curfew in Cizre, documenting the deaths of Cizre People’s Assembly Co-chair Mehmet Tunç and his nephew Bêkes. According to reports from the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), the local court's previous ruling of 1 year and 2 months of imprisonment has now become final, leading to his immediate transfer to a penal institution
