AK Party Kars MP Adem Çalkın has announced significant progress on the long-awaited Karakurt–Kağızman Road Project, a major transportation investment considered crucial for the province of Kars.
According to Çalkın, the project, which had remained incomplete for years despite public expectations, moved forward following extensive negotiations in Ankara. After discussions with Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, revisions were made to the project and the tender process was completed.
The construction site was officially handed over to the contractor on May 13, 2026. The project, valued at approximately 2.908 billion Turkish lira, will be carried out through a partnership between Burakcan Construction and Mapek Construction.
The investment includes the Karakurt–Kağızman Road, the Kötek–Kağızman Road, and the Horasan–Selim Junction construction works. Contractors have completed the establishment of construction facilities and have already begun field operations.
The entire project is scheduled for completion within 1,200 days. During the first phase, 37 kilometers of roadway will be built.
Çalkın stated that he was pleased to see the long-awaited investment finally enter the implementation stage. He thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu for their support in launching the project.
He also emphasized that efforts to support the development of Kars will continue and expressed hope that the new road project will bring significant benefits to the people of Kars and Kağızman.
