Kars Kasseri Cheese En Route to EU Geographical Indication Registration. Under the chairmanship of the Governor of Kars, Ziya Polat, and with the participation of representatives from relevant institutions, the Kars Kasseri European Union Geographical Indication Registration Protocol was signed. With the protocol signed in cooperation with Kafkas University, Serhat Development Agency, Kars Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Milk and Dairy Products Producers Association of Kars and Ardahan Provinces; the European Union geographical indication registration process is being initiated for Kars Kasseri, which is among the most renowned cheeses in Turkey and is already under national geographical indication protection, to be registered before the European Union (EU) as well. The European Union (EU) geographical indication registration will support the preservation of specific quality standards of Kars Kasseri, prevent imitations and unauthorized use, increase the product's visibility in international markets, and help regional producers obtain greater economic value, while also contributing to the strengthening of Kars' agricultural production capacity, gastronomy tourism, and local development potential. Upon completion of the European Union (EU) registration process, it is aimed for Kars Kasseri to achieve a stronger brand value internationally and to contribute more to the regional economy. With the successful completion of the process, a local product from Kars will be placed under international protection for the very first time.
